Grape Vines

When you think of Summer I bet what comes to mind is “Heat & Humidity” ……Well here on the Granite Belt that usually is not the case. Sure, we have some hot sunny clear days, but generally the nights cool off to a level where you still may need to wear a light coat or put a blanket on the bed. So, don’t forget, if you are considering a short stay or a weekend away here in Stanthorpe on the Granite Belt be sure to pack a light coat……even in summer.

These cool mornings are a great time to go for a walk in one of our nearby National Parks, then refresh in one of the swimming holes and take in a couple of wineries during the midday sunshine, resting up a little ready to explore something else during the afternoon.

Oh…..another advantage I should mention is no crowds, so if you love crowded beaches, crowded shopping centres, crowded coffee shops, crowded roads then maybe the Granite Belt is not for you because we have none of that drama here – although sometimes we do have to give way at a round-a-bout for a couple of cars to pass.

Now that the days are warmer everything is flourishing around the region. The grape vines are growing strongly with the new tiny little grapes starting to appear. The wine makers are busily thinning the leaves of the vines to ensure the bunches get enough sunlight and breeze to keep them healthy and growing strong, so they are in peak condition for hand harvesting and setting on their way to make another award-winning vintage.

Before we go any further, a very Happy New Year to you all. We would like to thank all of our wonderful guests for a great year last year. We ended the year in the best possible way with a record breaking December occupancy and a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor, thanks to your wonderful reviews. It looks like we will also be receiving an award from Booking.com for increasing our rating with them, so please, for those that haven’t already, pop your review on Booking.com and hopefully (fingers crossed) we’ll make it. Now we have to set the bar higher for 2018.

A new year and some new things happening around 31 The Rocks. We started by replacing the BBQ’s at 2 of our Studio Villas and we have made some more changes to the Gazebo. The old café blinds have been removed, along with the bar heater and the old brick BBQ. We are planning to change the old BBQ spot into a new garden feature. Also on the list is to upgrade the start of Walking Track 1 so that it is wheel chair accessible as far in as the wine tree. We also plan to have a seating area in there so that our guests can sit, relax, have a drink, watch the birds and generally unwind in the natural bush setting. We might even be releasing a new package….stay tuned!

There are some great events happening around Stanthorpe in the next few months. The biggest of which is the Apple & Grape Harvest Festival. It starts on 23rd February, with the main weekend being 2nd to 4th March. On 17th February we have the Sicilian Vintage Lunch at Golden Grove Estate. It is one of the best days you will have – great food, great wine and even greater fun. Busking is back again this year on 24th February and the Stanthorpe Show is 2nd & 3rd February. What a busy calendar we have – there’s always something to do in Stanthorpe. And as if that’s not enough, some wineries are conducting their vineyard walk guided tours through the vines with lots of information about the grapes and how they are nurtured to produce the award-winning wines that the Granite Belt is producing year after year. Check out the Granite Belt Wine Country Website for details. Summit Estate Winery also have their Sunset Sessions so bring your picnic blanket, some nibbles and a bottle of your favourite and watch the sunset over the vineyard. Romantic and a great idea for Valentine’s Day…. Don’t forget to book your stay with us.
