It’s our 3rd Birthday

Why 31 The Rocks?

As happens all too often these days, redundancy in middle age…what next? Well, if it’s going to be a change, it might as well be a big one.

Neither of us had ever been involved with accommodation or tourism, except taking our own holidays, and with a shared idea that we might like to run a motel, we spent over a year and a half looking at places from Brisbane to the Victorian Border.

We’d overlooked 31 The Rocks because it was listed as a B&B, and we thought that was only having people stay in your house and not quite what we were after. But on our way back from one of our road trips – motel hunting expeditions – we decided to stop in here and see what it was like, nothing else was panning out for us it seemed.

As soon as we drove into the driveway on that November day, we knew this was it……

The First 3 Years

It has been an extreme learning experience for us both. We were concerned that moving to a small country town might be a bit difficult, but Stanthorpe has welcomed us with open arms and the people are amazing. Marketing, maintenance, booking systems, cleaning, laundry, laundry, laundry….and working with your other half all day every day…yes there were a few challenges to get through.

We’ve taken on all the tasks here ourselves though, divided up the jobs and now have a good understanding of what we like, what our guests have come to expect and how we fit into our own slot in the accommodation market in Stanthorpe.

We’ve changed quite a few things in and around the property and the Villas, placed our own mark on 31 The Rocks and it’s not until you sit back and take a good look, that you realise just how much has been achieved.

The Right Decision?

You bet! We have a beautiful piece of Australia here. The Granite Belt is amazing, the ancient granite rocks have a special attraction. The National Parks are unique, the wine is to die for and the local fresh produce is delectable.

We wake up to beautiful views, meet and spend time with our wonderful guests, and occasionally we do have to remind ourselves sometimes to stop, grab a glass or two of wine, take in the beautiful sunsets and enjoy what it is that attracted us to the place ourselves and why it is that we love it here so much.

It doesn’t feel like going to work….

Here’s to 3 great years and many more to come.

This place is awesome…see you soon!
